Neither team scored through the first three innings as Colin Rea matched Skenes. Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Seiya Suzuki. Pittsburgh’s defense contributed to a three-run sixth, including a throwing error and an RBI groundout by Suzuki, ending Skenes’ night. Rea allowed a solo home run to Bryan Reynolds, and Hoby Milner later gave up an RBI double to Tylor Callihan, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Chicago added insurance with a two-run homer by Ian Happ and further runs in the eighth, then won the series split.
