"Cincinnati busted the game wide open with six runs in the bottom of the frame. Ryan Rolison was the victim, giving up a bases-clearing double to Ke'Bryan Hayes and a second three-run blast to McLain."
"It was another rough start for Jameson Taillon, who got rocked for six runs before recording as many outs. The Reds hit two home runs, including a three-run shot by Matt McLain, to go on top 6-4 in the bottom of the 2nd."
"The Cubs have a lot of starting pitching options in 2026, so even veterans like Taillon aren't going to be guaranteed a spot in the rotation if they struggle. This is only spring training, but he is going to have to do much better than this once the games begin to count."
The Cubs traveled to Goodyear for a spring training game against the Reds on a sunny Monday afternoon. Chicago started strong, taking a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double by Moisés Ballesteros and a single by Chas McCormick. However, Jameson Taillon struggled on the mound, allowing six runs before recording six outs, including two home runs. Cincinnati took a 6-4 lead in the second inning. The Cubs tied the game 6-6 in the third, but the Reds exploded for six more runs in the bottom of the frame, including a bases-clearing double by Ke'Bryan Hayes and a three-run home run by Matt McLain. Chicago never recovered, losing 17-9. Taillon's poor performance raises questions about his roster spot given the Cubs' depth of starting pitching options.
