Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/14/26): Rockies 4, Cubs 3 - Brown Pitches Well in Walk-Off Loss -
"Brown was on it with six strikeouts and only three runners reaching base in four innings. Brown demonstrated again on Saturday that he has nasty stuff if he can control it. It's definitely worth another look at the big league level this season."
"Chicago used a run-scoring single by Kevin Alcántara and a sacrifice fly by Jonathon Long to move in front 2-1 in the 5th. The North Siders expanded their advantage to 3-1 in the 6th inning, when a throwing error by the catcher on a Matt Shaw stolen base allowed Nico Hoerner to score from third."
"It took just two batters for the Rockies to win the game in the 9th inning, with a cement-mixer slider getting way too much of the plate on the dinger. Three runs were not enough to win this game with a very inexperienced bullpen."
The Cubs traveled to Salt River Fields to face the Rockies in spring training. Ben Brown started and pitched four strong innings with six strikeouts, allowing only an RBI groundout. Chicago built a 3-1 lead through the 6th inning with runs from Kevin Alcántara's single, Jonathon Long's sacrifice fly, and a throwing error by the catcher. Colorado scored one run to make it 3-2. In the 9th inning, Braxton Fulford hit a two-run walk-off home run off Grant Kipp to give the Rockies a 4-3 victory. The Cubs' inexperienced bullpen proved insufficient to protect the lead.
