The Cubs and Royals played a back-and-forth spring training game featuring multiple lead changes and numerous home runs. Kansas City scored first in the 1st inning, but Chicago responded with a grand slam by Pedro Ramirez and a solo shot by Nico Hoerner in the 2nd to take a 5-1 lead. The Royals mounted a comeback with home runs from Brett Squires, Elias Diaz, Luca Tresh, and Peyton Wilson to take a 6-5 advantage. Chicago regained the lead 7-6 with RBI singles, but Kansas City tied and retook the lead in the 8th and 9th innings. The Cubs won 9-8 when Matt Halbach hit a game-winning double after a called third strike was overturned on challenge.
