"Shortstop Corey Seager got the party going for Texas with a three-run blast in the bottom of the 1st inning. Josh Smith expanded the lead to 4-0 with a solo shot in the 2nd. Chicago's offense did not do much of anything early in the contest against Jacob deGrom."
"Horton surrendered his final homer in the bottom of the 4th when Ezequiel Duran launched a two-run dong. Andrew McCutchen added an RBI double off of Ryan Rolison that increased the Rangers' advantage to 7-0 in the 5th."
"The Cubs are probably happy that Horton had one of his rough outings this season in an exhibition game. The young right-hander has been excellent all spring until Tuesday, and big things are expected of him in 2026."
The Cubs traveled to Surprise to face the Rangers in a spring training matchup. Cade Horton started for Chicago but struggled, allowing six runs in 3.2 innings while surrendering four home runs. Corey Seager's three-run blast in the first inning gave Texas an early lead, followed by solo shots from Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran. Andrew McCutchen added an RBI double to extend the Rangers' advantage. Chicago's offense remained quiet against Jacob deGrom until the sixth inning when Matt Shaw hit a solo homer and Chas McCormick added a sacrifice fly. The Rangers won 8-3. Despite this poor outing, Horton has pitched well throughout spring training and is expected to perform well in 2026.
