"He dominated the league last year. There (weren't) many challenges when he was pitching,"
"He was outstanding. Now it's: Do it again. Do it over a full season."
"There's still a lot to prove. First year, now guys have a scouting report on me,"
"Now it's all about going out there and executing a pitch and giving my team a chance to win."
Cade Horton logged 118.0 innings in 2025 with a 2.67 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP, finishing second in National League Rookie of the Year voting. Horton suffered a late-season fractured rib and missed the Cubs' postseason run, and he dealt with a shoulder injury in 2024 but appears healthy heading into 2026 Spring Training. Horton is already sitting at 96 mph in early preparation and has touched 98 mph, a modest increase from his 2025 average of 95.7 mph. The immediate challenge is to replicate rookie dominance over a full season while opponents now possess more detailed scouting reports. Spring Training opens soon with a Crosstown game at Sloan Park.
