"The Chicago Bulls are finally, mercifully ditching former two-time All-Star center Nikola Vucevic. Stunningly, they are acquiring yet another small, score-first guard into the mix. Per Amazon Prime Video's Chris Haynes, Chicago is acquiring Boston Celtics sixth-man guard Anfernee Simons in the swap. ESPN's Shams Charania reports that both clubs will be exchanging future second-round draft picks. Boston will save significant luxury tax cash in the offing, as Vucevic makes $6.2 million less than Simons. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype notes that Boston has been on the hunt for big man help heading into Thursday's trade deadline. The Celtics apparently inquired about both LA Clippers center Ivica Zubac and now-Utah Jazz power forward Jaren Jackson Jr."
"If they decide to go with a different type of big man, because maybe they think it fits better with some of the stuff they want to do, then that's all normal, that's their decision. Their job is to build their best team. ... I know some of the limitations I have, I'm aware of them. Vucevic is a terrible rim protector, but a very solid 3-point shooter, rebounder, and passer for his position."
The Chicago Bulls are sending Nikola Vucevic to the Boston Celtics in exchange for sixth-man guard Anfernee Simons and a swap of future second-round draft picks. Boston will reduce luxury-tax liabilities because Vucevic earns $6.2 million less than Simons. The Celtics pursued frontcourt upgrades before the deadline, reportedly inquiring about Ivica Zubac and Jaren Jackson Jr. The Bulls and Celtics explored this trade earlier in the season, with deadline urgency changing the teams' evaluations. Vucevic acknowledged a possible reduced role, accepted his limitations, and averaged 16.9 points with .505/.376/.838 shooting and 9.0 rebounds across 48 games.
