Where's the beef? Will the Bears back up Ben Johnson's shot at Packers coach Matt LaFleur?
""I've got a tremendous amount of respect for the coaches and the players in this [division]," Johnson said at his introductory news conference in January. "I've been competing against them for the last six years.""
""And to be quite frank with you, I kind of enjoyed beating [ Green Bay Packers coach] Matt LaFleur twice a year," he added."
Ben Johnson became the Chicago Bears head coach 11 months ago after six seasons as a Detroit Lions assistant. He expressed respect for coaches and players in the NFC North and noted that he had been competing against them for six years. At his introductory news conference he said he "kind of enjoyed beating [Green Bay Packers coach] Matt LaFleur twice a year." Targeting the Packers coach continued a Bears tradition of singling out Green Bay. The Bears entered Johnson's tenure 1-11 in their last 12 games against the Packers, having snapped an 11-game losing streak in Week 18 last season and not having beaten Green Bay in consecutive games since 2007. At the time, Johnson's words might have seemed like nothing more than bluster.
