Finally! A Bears Coach Explains Team's Drop Problems in 2025
The 2025 Chicago Bears experienced major problems with dropped passes. The team overcame some of those issues, but the missed yards and points remained a concern. Bears assistant head coach and wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El attributed the drop problem to concentration. He cited a discrepancy between PFF’s drop count and the team’s own standards, with the team reporting 43 drops. He said the drops were largely “concentration drops,” where receivers were not seeing the ball, taking their eyes off it, and trying to run before the ball was fully caught. He also emphasized catching mechanics as part of the improvement process for 2026.
"“We look at what we had last year, I think PFF had us at like 29 drops. We really had 43, according to our standards. It came back to, at the end of the day, these concentration drops. Like, you're not seeing the ball. Literally, you're taking your eyes off the ball. So, you go back and look at the drops we had, the guys were taking their eyes off the ball, trying to run before they actually had it caught.”"
"Drops were a major problem for the 2025 Chicago Bears. Sure, the team was able to overcome those issues. But in quiet moments, I wonder how many more yards and points were left on the field because of the inability to catch the ball. I imagine we'd be talking about some players differently had things not been so volatile when it came to catching passes."
"“And there you have it! The source of the Bears' drop problem. Who knew it was as simple as a few lapses in concentration?”"
