Bears coach regrets how TV interview received
Bears coach Ben Johnson expressed regret about how his halftime interview was received after Chicago trailed 14-9 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Johnson told players that the first-half performance "wasn't our brand of football" and that the team would "hit the reset button" and establish its identity in the second half. A sideline follow-up asking whether he needed to change prompted a curt exchange when Johnson believed he heard a statement rather than a question. Johnson said he didn't hear well, acknowledged his reaction was poor, and committed to doing a better job in similar situations. The Bears won 25-24 after Josh Blackwell blocked a 54-yard field goal and Johnson credited the team's character.
""That it wasn't our brand of football, we're capable of a lot more. We're hitting the reset button here at halftime and we're going to come back and establish our identity here in the second half.""
""In the moment I honestly I didn't think too much of it," Johnson said. "I'm kind of in game mode. But when I look back at it, I am a little bit disappointed with what that looks like. I didn't hear very well and that's not an excuse but when I thought I heard, it was not a question, but I needed to make some changes, I didn't take that very well, so I'll do a better job with those going forward.""
