'A kick in the teeth': Bears defense throttled again on the road in Detroit
"Any time you lose a game like that -- man, it's a kick in the teeth,"
"Nothing about that feels good. Unfortunately, I've been through a number of these throughout the course of my career."
"These guys are hurt. It stinks. They fought, they fought the entire game, and when you play a good team on the road and you have turnovers and you don't convert on fourth down and you give up explosive plays on defense, it can go sideways in a hurry."
Chicago lost 52-21 to Detroit at Ford Field, extending a run of lopsided defeats and leaving the roster dealing with another demoralizing loss. Ben Johnson, who replaced Matt Eberflus after the Thanksgiving Day collapse last season, said the defeat felt like a "kick in the teeth" and that he has experienced similar losses before. Johnson said players are hurt and that turnovers, missed fourth-down conversions and explosive defensive plays allowed the game to get away. Detroit has scored 50+ points multiple times since the 2024 season began. The Bears have lost 12 of their last 13 games since Oct. 27.
