Miguel Vargas left the game against the New York Yankees in the fifth inning with a left wrist contusion, three innings after hitting his first career grand slam. The injury occurred when Vargas tried to stretch for Curtis Mead's wide throw from just behind third base on a chopper by Aaron Judge. Judge's left leg appeared to strike Vargas' left (glove) hand as Vargas ran to first, and Vargas crumpled to the ground in pain. Judge was awarded a single and advanced to second on the throw, which also allowed Ben Rice to score and break a 4-4 tie. The Yankees added another run that inning to take a 6-4 lead. Vargas' homer was his 14th of the season. Curtis Mead replaced Vargas at first base.
