Miguel Vargas was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left hand after leaving in the fifth inning of a 10-4 loss to the New York Yankees. Vargas was playing first base and was injured while trying to stretch for Curtis Mead's throw from behind third base. It looked as if Aaron Judge's left leg struck Vargas' glove hand as he ran to first, and Vargas crumpled with his glove falling off. Vargas hit his first career grand slam in the second inning and is batting .234 with 14 homers and 52 RBI in 121 games. The White Sox recalled rookie first baseman Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte; Elko entered the starting lineup and is 9-for-62 (.145) with four homers and eight RBI in 20 games this season.
