Truck explosion caught on camera in suburban Chicago after propane leak: officials

A box truck exploded in a suburban Chicago neighborhood, injuring the driver and damaging homes. Investigators deemed it an accident caused by a propane tank leak. The Addison Fire Protection District and Police Department responded promptly, finding a large debris field but no ongoing fire. Video footage captured the explosion, leading to one home being evacuated due to structural concerns. Penske, the rental company, stated that hazardous materials should not be transported in their trucks, and they will cooperate with investigations.

"The explosion damaged a few homes in the area, but nobody was injured other than the driver who sustained minor injuries," the Addison Police Department said in a Facebook update.

Penske will cooperate fully with any further investigation by law enforcement," the company said in a statement. "Under Penske's rental agreement, explosive, flammable or otherwise hazardous materials should not be transported in a consumer rental moving truck."
