Altavilla, 32, returned from a rehab assignment for a right lat strain, recorded the final two outs of the eighth for a hold while allowing one run, and is 0-1 with a 2.63 ERA and two saves in 26 outings. The White Sox optioned Jonathan Cannon and Tim Elko to Triple-A Charlotte to open roster spots; Cannon is 4-9 with a 5.67 ERA and Elko hit .134 with four homers and eight RBIs in 23 games.
