Miguel Vargas hits IL with hand sprain, though White Sox relieved absence shouldn't be too long
Briefly

Miguel Vargas was placed on the injured list with a sprained hand after Aaron Judge ran into his glove while running to first base. Vargas fell to the ground in pain, but tests showed no fracture. Manager Will Venable said Vargas could be ready near the end of the standard 10-day injured list period if he progresses. Vargas said he felt much better and hoped to swing and move normally within a week. The White Sox also lost Luis Robert Jr. to a strained hamstring that could end his season. Vargas has a .719 OPS and 14 home runs in 121 games this season, signaling a rebound and solidifying his place in the team's emerging core.
the news the Sox received Friday was good, with manager Will Venable suggesting Vargas' stay on the injured list might not last much longer than the standard 10 days. "We're hopeful that after his 10 days that he's close and has progressed to the point where we can activate him," Venable said. "It looked serious. I think it was serious, [though] obviously not to the point that he broke it. ... We're happy with the result."
Vargas' injury came a day after center fielder Luis Robert Jr. hit the injured list with a strained hamstring, which could knock him out for the remainder of the season. The Sox, though, won't be forced to limp to the end of 2025 without both hitters. "I guess it's good news," Vargas said. "It feels way better than what it was [feeling] last night. Hopefully, next week, I'll be able to swing and move, everything back [to normal]."
