Chicago baseball report: Cade Horton making push for NL Rookie of the Year, while White Sox eye strong finish
""I feel like I've gotten to a position where I know where my stuff plays, and really just having conviction," Horton said. "As soon as I let go the ball, I have no control of the result, and so it's just all about taking the result out of it and making a pitch like I would in a bullpen.""
""He's attacking the strike zone, that's what he does, and it's quality stuff inside the strike zone, which is getting outs in the strike zone," manager Craig Counsell said. "He doesn't have to rely on chase, and that's a good pitcher. We made a couple nice plays"
The Cubs failed to complete a sweep of the Atlanta Braves and will begin a three-game series in Atlanta on Monday. The Washington Nationals, with one of MLB's worst records, travel to Wrigley Field next. The White Sox finish a stretch of 17 games in 17 days with three against the Detroit Tigers after going 7-6 in the first 13 games of that run. Cade Horton, limited to about 75 pitches per start for health reasons, threw five no-hit innings with six strikeouts and retired 14 batters in succession after a first-inning walk. Manager Craig Counsell praised Horton's attack and quality pitches in the strike zone, noting his efficiency will determine how deep he goes in games as he builds an NL Rookie of the Year case.
