Colson Montgomery was promoted to the Chicago White Sox on Independence Day after a challenging start in Triple-A. Initially sent to the developmental league due to a low batting average, he worked on improving his performance, raising his average from .149 to .215. In 55 games, he recorded 11 home runs and 32 RBIs. Montgomery's emotional call-up was marked by Knights manager Sergio Santos's announcement that he earned the shortstop position. His notable achievement before the call-up included a walkoff single against the Jumbo Shrimp.
"You won't be playing shortstop for us tomorrow. You're gonna be playing short for the Chicago White Sox. ... You earned it."
Montgomery started his second season in Triple-A, but struggled early on, with an average dropping to .149 in Charlotte near the end of April.
In his second-to-last game with Charlotte, the 23-year-old hit a walkoff single at Truist Field against the Jumbo Shrimp.
Montgomery returned to the Queen City May 13, and elevated his average to .215 with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs in 55 games.
