Coventry City manager Frank Lampard expressed his satisfaction after replacing goalkeeper Brad Collins with Ben Wilson, resulting in a crucial 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough. Wilson, who last played in October and had faced a knee injury, made six vital saves, ensuring Coventry's playoff position. Lampard praised Wilson's composure and pivotal saves throughout the match. Following a previous mistake from Collins that jeopardized play-off chances, this decision proved beneficial, with a semi-final against Sunderland now upcoming. Wilson's return and performance marked a significant turnaround for both the player and the team.
"It's a big call," Lampard told BBC CWR. "All eyes go on the goalkeeper when you make a change for the last game of the season. Ben was calm with his feet, big saves and quick out of his box. He can be very happy with his performance."
"Ben had quite a bad injury and it was not until recently that he was saying he was feeling better and looking better," he said. "For a goalkeeper with an injury, it's not easy to train at their level. It's only recently that he was ready, and I knew he was."
