"Three years ago this week, we battled Maidenhead United to a draw. Today, we pushed Chelsea to extra time. So incredibly proud of Wrexham's performance today."
Wrexham lost 4-2 to Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round after extra-time despite a competitive performance. Sam Smith gave Wrexham an early lead, but an own-goal by Arthur Okonkwo equalized matters. Callum Doyle restored Wrexham's advantage before Josh Acheampong leveled again. George Dobson's red card in stoppage time forced Wrexham to play with ten men in extra-time, allowing Chelsea to score twice more through Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro. Co-owner Ryan Reynolds expressed pride in the team's journey, noting that three years ago Wrexham drew with Maidenhead United in the National League, while today they competed against Chelsea. Under Reynolds and Rob Mac's ownership since November 2020, Wrexham has climbed from the National League and currently sits sixth in the Championship, occupying the final playoff position.
