The NTSB is investigating an incident involving Alaska Airlines flight 1282, where a panel flew off a Boeing 737 Max shortly after takeoff, causing rapid decompression and leading to minor injuries among passengers. Investigators revealed that securing bolts for the door plug panel were removed and not replaced during repairs. The NTSB discussions aim to develop recommendations for ensuring such failures do not recur and enhance passenger safety in the future.
Board members were also expected to approve recommendations to keep something similar from ever happening again.
The accident occurred as the plane flew at 16,000 feet (4,800 meters). Oxygen masks dropped during the rapid decompression and a few cellphones and other objects were swept through the hole.
