"The ERGA FCV builds on the foundation of the ERGA EV, Isuzu's battery-electric low-floor city bus introduced in 2024. In this new model, Toyota's fuel cell system and hydrogen storage tanks are integrated into the roof structure, allowing Isuzu to retain a fully flat-floor interior. Electricity is generated through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen inside Toyota's fuel cell stack, powering the traction motor."
"The vehicle, developed jointly with Toyota Motor Corporation, will be exhibited as part of the Tokyo Future Tour 2035 program - one of the show's main highlights. The ERGA FCV can be refueled with hydrogen in just a few minutes, delivering the same smooth and quiet operation associated with BEVs while emitting only water vapor. Within the partnership, "Isuzu is responsible for the planning, development, and design of the vehicle body, while Toyota is in charge of the development of the FC system", Isuzu states."
Isuzu will debut the ERGA FCV next-generation fuel cell bus at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo. The vehicle is developed jointly with Toyota, with production planned at the J-Bus plant in Japan from 2026. The ERGA FCV builds on the 2024 ERGA EV platform and integrates Toyota's fuel cell system and hydrogen storage tanks into the roof to preserve a fully flat-floor interior. Hydrogen and oxygen react in Toyota's fuel cell stack to generate electricity for the traction motor. The bus refuels in minutes, operates quietly like a BEV, emits only water vapor, and supports Isuzu's carbon-neutral strategy.
