Irate Wolff dimisses swirl around Mercedes' fuel problem as nonsense'
"You know this is another of these stories. We were told compression ratio is something that we were illegal, which is total bullshit. Utter bullshit, and now the next story comes up that our fuel is illegal? I don't know where that comes from and it starts spinning again."
"Another nonsense. This is a complicated topic and the process, and all of this, but there's just not... I can't even comment."
The FIA proposed a mid-season regulation change and announced a vote on implementing it from August regarding the legality of Mercedes' engine. The controversy centers on an alleged compression ratio loophole that reportedly lets Mercedes reach a higher limit when the engine is at operating temperature. Ferrari, Red Bull, Honda and Audi are reportedly unhappy, and Mercedes supplies engines to other teams such as McLaren. Reports also claimed Petronas has yet to obtain certification and homologation for the sustainable fuel for Mercedes-powered teams. Toto Wolff denied the engine and fuel allegations and said either vote outcome is acceptable.
