Daimler Buses has started test drives of the Setra S 517 HD high-decker H2 Coach equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell drive. The 13.9-meter coach combines two hydrogen tanks totaling 46 kilograms with a fuel cell module of up to 300 kW developed by the Daimler - Volvo joint venture cellcentric (launched 2021), offering a stated range of at least 800 km. The electric motor delivers 320 kW continuous and 400 kW peak, with torque of 1,368 Nm and 2,470 Nm. An integrated battery pack stores energy to optimize fuel cell efficiency and provide situational power support. The vehicle has a permissible gross vehicle weight of 24.7 tons and is approved as a test vehicle under TÜV Section 19.6, allowing drives on internal and public roads. Daimler Buses pursues a dual e-mobility strategy alongside battery-electric city and intercity models, and positions fuel-cell coaches as the next roadmap step amid competing offerings such as MAN's Lion's Coach E and Irizar's i6 Efficient Hydrogen.
