Oliver Rowland clinched his first Formula E world championship at the Berlin E-Prix, finishing fourth in a thrilling race marked by 16 lead changes. Rowland's triumph represents Nissan's inaugural drivers' title in the series. His four-year-old daughter celebrated his victory over the team radio, expressing her pride. Rowland's journey included a challenging period with the Mahindra team, where he briefly considered leaving the sport, but ultimately took a risk that led to his current success. This achievement marks a significant career high for the 32-year-old from Barnsley.
This win comes only two years after Rowland was disenchanted with the performance of his Mahindra team, so much so that he left them midway through the season and considered leaving the sport altogether.
Rowland sealed the title by taking fourth place in the second of two races at the penultimate meeting of the all-electric series' season at Tempelhof airport.
