"Say you're driving in the left lane of a US highway and your exit is up ahead on the right side. "With live lane guidance, just glance at your dash display to see exactly which lane you can be in at any given moment," Google says in a blog post. (Of course, you can also look at the road to figure out this information.)"
"The new feature to Maps will exist alongside standard features like live traffic alerts and estimated drive times. For now, live lane guidance is only available to Polestar 4 cars with Google built-in and only in the US and Sweden, but the company says that it plans to roll out to more cars as it partners with other automakers. The company also says that it plans to add more road types in addition to highways."
Google Maps introduces live lane guidance for drivers of the Google-powered electric Polestar 4. The feature uses the EV's front-facing camera to detect lane markings and road signs, feeding that data into Google Maps' AI to produce customized audio and visual merging cues in real time. The system can display which lane the driver should be in and remind drivers to merge when their exit approaches. Polestar vehicles run Android-based infotainment and already include integrations like Chrome and high-definition maps. Live lane guidance complements existing live traffic alerts and ETA features, currently available only on Polestar 4 units in the US and Sweden, with planned expansion to more cars and road types.
