'First for us': Central Calif. police confront Car Week takeovers at In-N-Out
Briefly

An illegal street takeover occurred outside the In-N-Out in Seaside during Car Week, drawing hundreds of car enthusiasts and disrupting local neighborhoods for three nights. Residents expressed shock at the overwhelming turnout, while police took action to barricade roads. This incident marked the first time Seaside Police faced such an issue during Car Week. Despite the chaos, the police noted that organized events proceeded safely. Tire remnants left behind reflected a disregard for the community. Officials urged participants to stick to structured gatherings to avoid public safety risks.
"I've never seen it like that before. It was crazy," said Monterey resident Shyla Lucas, who lives near the In-N-Out.
"At 11, the police came and barricaded that road and the other side of this road, so that nobody could come through here anymore, so that was really good," Lucas said.
"We have never had that problem here at In-N-Out, we've never at Home Depot during Car Week," said Seaside police Chief Nick Borges. "This year was a first for us."
"All of our planned events that we prepare for throughout the year, they all went really well without a hitch. We had some minor issues here and there, but they were safe. They were smooth."
