Chiron Steals the Show in Newport as Bugatti Super Sport Sells for $5.7M | stupidDOPE | Est. 2008
"A 2022 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ Coupe hammered for a staggering $5,725,000 at Bonhams|Cars' Audrain Auction, turning what was already a strong sale into a one-car story. The result came during the Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week on October 3, and it accounted for more than half of the auction's total receipts. For contrast, we need to go back to Goodwood earlier in the summer."
"The Chiron Super Sport is not just another hypercar. It is one of only about 30 examples ever made, a final high-water mark for the Chiron line and, critically, a last hurrah of Bugatti's purely gasoline era . Part of why the bidding jumped so high was plain and simple. There are almost none of these cars left and it feels like the final act of the Chiron story."
A 2022 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ Coupe sold for $5,725,000 and made up more than half of the Bonhams Audrain auction receipts. A 2007 Veyron 16.4 Coupé with under 500 miles sold for £1,527,000 (over US$2 million) at Goodwood, setting a public-auction record for a standard Veyron. The Chiron Super Sport is one of roughly 30 examples and represents a final high-water mark and the end of Bugatti's purely gasoline era. Scarcity and end-of-line status pushed bidding into mid-seven figures. Bonhams reported about $10.3 million across 47 lots with roughly an 85% sell-through, indicating sustained demand for rare ICE hypercars in the U.S. and continuing strong Bugatti auction performance.
