"Tesla has finally rolled out its long-promised affordable Model Y. The new base trim, called the Model Y Standard, is a stripped-down version of the company's best-selling electric vehicle. It's cheaper and simpler, but it still packs Tesla's trademark tech, software and driving range found on pricier models. The Model Y Standard comes with seamless Supercharger access and automatic route planning, mobile app controls with remote climate controls and safety features like Sentry Mode and Dog Mode."
"Unlike other Teslas, Autopilot is not standard on the cheaper Model Y. It only gets adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring. (It's missing the Tesla's "Autosteer" feature that guides a car to follow lane lines.) However, the car is hardware-ready for the Full Self Driving (FSD) advanced driver assistance system, though unlocking that capability is still an $8,000 add-on."
"The good news is that the range hasn't suffered on the Model Y Standard. It is rated at an EPA-estimated 321 miles of range, only slightly below the 357 miles offered by the current Long Range rear-wheel-drive version. It gets a 0-60 miles per hour time of 6.8 seconds, about a second slower than the Long Range Model Y, which can do the sprint in 5.7 seconds. At a starting price of $39,990, it undercuts the previous entry-level Model Y by about $5,000."
The Model Y Standard is a lower-cost, stripped-down base trim priced at $39,990 that preserves Tesla's core software and charging features while removing premium comforts. The vehicle includes Supercharger access, automatic route planning, mobile app remote climate controls, Sentry Mode and Dog Mode. Standard driver assistance features are adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring; Autosteer is not included. The car is hardware-ready for Full Self Driving but enabling FSD remains an $8,000 option. Cosmetic downgrades include a metal roof, fabric seats and simplified exterior lighting. EPA range is 321 miles and 0-60 is 6.8 seconds.
