The event highlighted how Western militaries are incorporating battlefield-proven counter-drone systems into their defenses. US Army Brig. Gen. Merops, an American counter-drone system developed by Project Eagle, has recorded more than 1,000 kills of Russian Shahed-style drones in Ukraine. The system includes a ground control unit, launch platforms, and the Surveyor interceptor drone operated by a four-person crew. Merops is being deployed by NATO forces to respond to recent Russian drone incursions and to defend Eastern Europe. American, Polish, and Romanian units conducted training with Merops in southeastern Poland. Surveyor interceptors engage one-way attack drones but can miss and recover by parachute. Training for Merops crews takes about two weeks, enabling rapid fielding.
