Laura Banks, 44, was caught with 16kg of cannabis in her suitcase at Newcastle Airport after arriving from Thailand. She was stopped by a UK Border Force officer on January 30. The suitcase contained fifteen vacuum-sealed packages of the Class B drug. Banks was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, after admitting to drug smuggling. She must also complete 150 hours of unpaid work and work with the probation service to address her offending behavior.
