Men who tried to smuggle nearly 600,000 of cannabis from Canada to UK jailed

Jamaal Darbasie and George Manton were sentenced for attempting to smuggle cannabis valued at nearly £600,000 into Scotland, detailing their arrest by UK Border Force officers at Glasgow Airport. Upon arrival from Toronto, their luggage was examined, revealing 120 masks sealed packages of Class B drugs totaling 60 kilograms. Pleading guilty to drug supply, Darbasie was sentenced to three years, while Manton received 30 months. COPFS stated that this operation targeted both couriers and those orchestrating drug movements, emphasizing efforts to reduce community harm from drug trafficking.
Moira Orr, who leads on major crime for COPFS, said: "This was a substantial attempt to bring a significant quantity of illegal and harmful drugs through Scotland."
Darbasie was jailed for three years when he was sentenced at the High Court in Inverness, while Manton was ordered to spend 30 months behind bars.
