London 'drug mule' tears up as she appears in court in Sri Lanka accused of smuggling 1.2 million of super-strength cannabis
Briefly

Charlotte May Lee, a 21-year-old British former flight attendant, has been accused of smuggling over £1 million worth of cannabis into Sri Lanka. Arrested at Bandaranaike Airport after arriving from Bangkok, she claimed she was unaware of the drugs in her suitcase, which customs identified as the largest haul ever found there. Facing serious charges with a potential 25-year prison sentence, Lee described her detention conditions in a notorious prison as horrifying and reiterated her innocence, suggesting that the drugs had been planted.
I had never seen them before. I didn't expect it all when they pulled me over at the airport. I thought it was going to be filled with all my stuff.
Charlotte May Lee claimed she did not know she was smuggling drugs into Sri Lanka and stated the allegations were made up, as she had left her bags packed.
If found guilty, Ms Lee could face a 25-year sentence for possessing and importing illegal drugs into Sri Lanka, which she denies.
The stash of 46 kg of cannabis is the largest amount ever detected at Bandaranaike Airport since its opening in 1967, according to customs officers.
