Authorities in eastern Spain arrested three individuals and seized illegal substances, including ayahuasca and San Pedro cactus plants, after raiding spiritual retreats in Alicante. The retreats promised astral journeys and charged around 1,000 euros for their packages, appealing mainly to European clients. Investigations revealed that the organization made substantial cash earnings, utilizing various foreign bank accounts for transactions. During the raids, 16 attendees were present, with the facilities lacking essential safety equipment to manage potential poisonings. The retreats operated with groups of 20 and employed guides, possibly leading to further investigations related to safety violations.
The police seized 11 litres of ayahuasca, 117 San Pedro cactus plants, and bottles of toad poison in a raid on two rural properties in eastern Spain.
