The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs states that current research does not support cannabis as an effective treatment for PTSD and warns of potential harm from long-term use. However, a proposal from Florida Congressman Brian Mast seeks to change the policy, allowing VA doctors to discuss medical cannabis with veterans. Mast emphasizes the importance of providing veterans with all available healing options. Recent studies show promising results regarding cannabis use in treating PTSD, highlighting the need for updated policies and options in veteran healthcare.
"Veterans deserve all options when it comes to healing, and that includes the ability to talk to their doctor about medical cannabis," Representative Mast stated.
Currently, VA doctors are prohibited from discussing cannabis with their patients, but a new amendment could change that.
