"City councillors said Wednesday they're hoping to unlock higher speeds and signal priority for the Finch Light-Rail Transit line after its opening day saw mixed reaction. Coun. Jamaal Myers (Scarborough North), who is also the Toronto Transit Commission's chair, brought a motion to urgently speed up the new LRT routes at Wednesday's board meeting. That motion passed. The simple truth is this: rapid transit must be rapid, he said."
"A CBC Toronto reporter also rode the entire 10.3-kilometre line from east to west Monday, finding it took roughly 55 minutes to complete. The reporter's eastbound return trip was closer to 47 minutes. Bus 'zooming right past' LRT: advocate Andrew Pulsifer, executive director of transit advocacy group TTCriders, said the Line 6 opening was a debacle. This is ultimately an own goal, folks, he said."
City councillors want higher speeds and signal priority for the Finch Light-Rail Transit Line following a mixed opening. A motion by Coun. Jamaal Myers to urgently speed up the new LRT routes passed. Line 6 has 18 stops and connects Finch West station to Humber Polytechnic's north campus. Construction began in 2019 with an original 2021 opening; the line opened Sunday with free rides. Commuters noted fewer stops than the previous bus route. A CBC reporter timed trips at about 55 minutes east–west and about 47 minutes return. Advocates cited lack of transit signal priority and buses passing the LRT. The motion asks TTC and Metrolinx to implement transit signal priority to keep lights green for the LRT.
