US to resume trade talks with Canada, says Canadian Prime Minister
Briefly

Trade talks between the US and Canada resumed after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the cancellation of Ottawa's proposed tax on US tech firms. US President Trump had recently suspended negotiations due to this tax, labeling it a direct attack on the US. Following a phone conversation between the two leaders, Canada agreed to withdraw the tax in hopes of reaching a trade deal by the July 21, 2025 deadline set at the G7 summit.
Trump's announcement on Friday was the latest in the trade war he's launched since taking office for a second term in January.
'Today's announcement will support a resumption of negotiations toward the July 21, 2025, timeline set out at this month's G7 Leaders' Summit in Kananaskis,' Carney said in a statement.
