Trump hits Canada with an extra 10% duty because Ontario's anti-tariff ad ran during the World Series and didn't come down immediately | Fortune
"Their Advertisement was to be taken down, IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run last night during the World Series, knowing that it was a FRAUD,"
"Because of their serious misrepresentation of the facts, and hostile act, I am increasing the Tariff on Canada by 10% over and above what they are paying now."
President Donald Trump said he will hike tariffs on Canadian imports by an additional 10% in response to an anti-tariff television advertisement aired by Ontario. The advertisement used words of former President Ronald Reagan to criticize U.S. tariffs, enraging Trump who said he would end trade talks with Canada. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he would pull the ad after the weekend; the ad ran Friday night during the first game of the World Series. Trump posted on Truth Social while flying to Malaysia, called the ad a fraud and said the tariff increase is over and above current levels. Trump said he would not meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the ASEAN summit in Malaysia.
