Torontonians gather to honour ICE victims as NDP calls for end to contracts with agency | CBC News
""I'm so sad, I'm so angry,""
""They're all so scared. They're struggling so hard to take care of each other and their neighbours. It's hard to be here and feel so far removed and so helpless," Rubenstein said."
""I think it's devastating to see our neighbours go through all this," MacDougall said. "It's just seems so senseless and needless.""
More than 100 people gathered across from the U.S. consulate in downtown Toronto to honour people killed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Candles, flowers, wreaths, photos and cardboard signs were placed near the Pillars of Justice sculpture outside the Ontario courthouse on University Avenue. Attendees expressed sadness, anger, fear and helplessness about the recent killings in U.S. cities. A handmade sign listed several victims, including Alex Pretti, Renee Good and Keith Porter. U.S. officials labelled two Minneapolis victims domestic terrorists and said agents acted in self-defence, while social media videos appeared to contradict that account. Widespread protests in Minneapolis have called for ICE to leave the state.
