Chief Myron Demkiw’s contract with the Toronto Police Service has been extended for four years to secure future leadership. The Toronto Police Service Board praised Demkiw’s dedication, steady and thoughtful leadership, and commitment to accountability, transparency and modernization, and emphasized that stability and leadership are critical at this moment. Demkiw, a police officer for more than 35 years, said serving as chief is the honour of his life and presented a renewed policing roadmap focused on community safety and well-being. Priorities include improving trust in and within the service, accelerating police reform and professionalization, and supporting safer communities through strengthened partnerships, hyper-local engagement and data-driven approaches.
