Toronto family works together to fight off men attempting to steal their car | CBC News
""I feel guilty," Tina told CBC Toronto. "You see this everyday on the news, but you never think that it's going to happen to you." Toronto police said in a social media post the incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Speaking outside her home Tuesday, Tina told reporters she immediately called out to her husband when she looked out her window and saw two men trying to break into the family's car."
""The first thing they did was cut the wires. They pull it. That's why the alarm didn't go on," she said. And when she turned back around, her husband was already outside trying to fight off the two would-be thieves. The family says one of the suspects hit Dave with a hard object and left a wound he had to get treated in hospital."
"In an attempt to help her husband, Tina, too, headed outside to confront the thieves. But when she was quickly pushed to the ground, she realized all she could do was scream. Tina's two sons, Tim and James, awoke when they heard their dog barking and their mom shouting. Tim says while it might not have been the best idea, he decided to chase after the two men."
Tina, a light sleeper, heard someone breaking into one of the family's vehicles around 3:30 a.m. near Dufferin Street and Rogers Road and called out to her husband after seeing two men outside. The suspects cut the car's alarm wires, preventing the alarm from sounding. Dave went outside to confront them and was struck with a hard object, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries that required hospital treatment. Tina went outside to help and was pushed to the ground, leaving her only able to scream. Their two sons awoke; one son chased the suspects to protect the family. Family members' names are pseudonyms for safety.
