The Beer Store to close 4 more Ontario locations, including north London store | CBC News
"Another London Beer Store is set to close this spring, marking the latest local impact of the retailer's shrinking brick-and-mortar presence across Ontario. The company said its location at 1727 Richmond St. will close on March 22, one of four stores shuttering provincewide on the same day. The others on the list are in Brampton, Etobicoke in suburban Toronto and Hamilton."
"Ozzie Ahmed, vice-president of retail, said the closures come as the company responds to the province's changing alcohol market. "The retail marketplace in Ontario continues to evolve and stabilize," Ahmed said in a news release. "As a business, we are focused on operating a retail network that meets evolving consumer needs, providing the largest selection of beer and a world-class deposit return system.""
Another London Beer Store at 1727 Richmond St. will close on March 22, one of four stores closing that day in Ontario (Brampton, Etobicoke and Hamilton). The Beer Store has closed dozens of locations since the Ford government ended its exclusive retail contract in 2024 and allowed beer sales in grocery, convenience and big-box stores. The company was required to keep at least 300 of its 438 stores open until the end of last year. The north London closure is the fourth in the city since 2024, leaving six Beer Store locations and reducing places to return empty containers for deposit refunds. The government plans to expand alcohol container returns to additional retailers over time, but details and operators remain to be finalized. The Beer Store said it will work to support affected employees but has not disclosed how many staff will be impacted.
