Tenants at a Toronto apartment building have been without heat for 20 days | CBC News
""It's really frustrating for sure," Andrea Thompson, a tenant, said Monday. "I'm tired because it's just cold." Thompson mentioned that residents are wearing layers to stay warm and expressed concern about the costs of running space heaters provided by the management."
""Most people are really beaten down by this," said Darren Driver, another tenant, highlighting the emotional toll the ongoing cold has taken on residents, leaving them feeling powerless."
""The city is treating the issue as a priority," said Gadi Katz, interim executive director of the city's municipal licensing and standards division, emphasizing the city's commitment to ensuring compliance and restoring heat."
Tenants at 64 St. Clair Avenue W. in Toronto have been without heat since early April due to a broken boiler. This is the second occurrence in three years. In February 2023, tenants experienced a similar issue that was resolved after intervention from local councilor Josh Matlow. The building owner, Cherishome Living, is working on the problem, with a new boiler expected by the end of May. The city has issued multiple notices of violation and is monitoring the situation closely.
