Residents in the Yonge and Davisville area are worried about the imminent demolition of a northeast-corner block of shops to make way for a condominium. Businesses affected include two local green grocers and a long-standing pub that functions as a community hub. Many residents rely on the green grocers for affordable, healthy food and say alternatives are more expensive and farther away. Elderly and disabled residents may have difficulty accessing groceries if the stores close. Businesses received 60-day demolition notices and most will close by Aug. 31. The developer provided financial compensation to retail tenants and has invited businesses to return, but future rental rates are unknown.
