Primary schools to merge as pupil numbers fall
Briefly

Five primary schools in Westminster are merging to address declining student numbers and financial difficulties. Barrow Hill Junior, Robinsfield Infant, and George Eliot Primary School will combine to form St John's Wood Primary School, while Our Lady of Dolours will merge into St Mary of the Angels Catholic Primary School. Despite opposition from parents, who cited concerns over capacity and educational quality, the decision was made to proceed due to significant funding strain resulting from low attendance rates. The move is seen as a response to broader issues such as falling birth rates and housing costs.
The proposed amalgamation would push our school to operate at 130% capacity, leading to crowded classrooms and a likely decrease in the quality of learning. Moreover, only half of the pupils from Our Lady of Dolours practice as Catholics.
The chairs of governors said they appreciate the decision will bring about some changes and perhaps a level of uncertainty.
