The suspect possibly goes by the name Guan Yu Wu and is between the ages of 18 and 25, York police said in a news release Thursday. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket and glasses."
"Police said the missing youth who has since been found received a call in January from an unknown person claiming to be police from China. The person told the youth he was implicated in a money laundering investigation and directed them to contact police in China to clear his name and not communicate with his family until then."
"On Feb. 2, the youth was told to meet with an alleged police representative from China at a commercial plaza in Markham, police said. He then met with an adult male who took him to an Airbnb in Mississauga. The youth was in the Airbnb for two days, after which he was told by an unknown person on Feb. 4 that he could go home, police said. It was later determined by police that a ransom demand was made to his family,"
