"A yellow cold warning is in effect for parts of the Greater Toronto Area with wind chill temperatures expected to drop to -25 C or -30 C. In its warning, Environment and Climate Change Canada said the cold temperatures would be taking hold overnight into the morning Monday."
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a yellow cold warning for parts of the Greater Toronto Area, including areas north of Toronto such as Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, and Newmarket, as well as cities east and west of Toronto. Wind chill temperatures are expected to reach -25°C to -30°C overnight into Monday morning. Toronto specifically will experience a low of -25°C overnight and -23°C in the morning, with sunny skies throughout Monday. The weather agency warns that frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill, and recommends covering up, keeping moving to maintain body heat, and seeking shelter from the wind. The City of Toronto opened additional warming centres at Cecil Community Centre and Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre at 5 p.m. due to the extreme cold.
