Sgt. Brandon Malcolm, a 33-year-old officer with the Ontario Provincial Police, died in a motorcycle crash on Highway 401 while on duty. A procession was held from Toronto's Centre of Forensic Sciences to Oshawa to honor his memory. Malcolm joined the OPP in June 2020 and was part of the OPP Golden Helmets motorcycle team. The Chief Coroner's Office is investigating the incident. Toronto police chief Myron Demkiw expressed condolences, highlighting the dangers faced by police officers daily.
