Ontario retiree estimates his tariff-hit dream car a 1969 Mustang will cost him about $30K more | CBC News
Briefly

Cameron Gillespie, a 65-year-old retiree from Brantford, Ontario, is facing unexpected challenges in importing his dream car, a 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang, due to a 25% tariff Canada imposed on classic cars amid ongoing trade tensions with the U.S. This significant tax will add approximately $30,000 to his initial purchase price of $105,000 CAD. Gillespie feels frustrated as these tariffs disproportionately affect individual Canadians, while larger automotive companies receive exemptions. His Mustang currently remains in Iowa as he seeks similar relief from tariffs for personal imports.
This tariff is not impacting the Americans. It's impacting us individual Canadians. I'm caught in the politics of two countries fighting with each other and it's the Canadian government who has implemented this tariff, not Donald Trump.
In May, the federal government announced these large companies would be provided with 'relief from Canada's counter-tariffs' as long as they maintain domestic production.
