"The leader of Ontario's NDP is asking the province's integrity commissioner to investigate the labour minister, alleging he has breached ethics rules in handing out skills training funding. Labour Minister David Piccini has come under fire for his handling of the Skills Development Fund, after an auditor general report found his office has been selecting funding recipients over the advice of bureaucrats."
"The government says it has asked the Ontario Provincial Police to look at the results of an audit on another source of government funding Keel has been receiving for student mental health that identified "irregularities." The company says it believes the government is conflating that with the Skills Development Fund "for the sole purpose of distracting from a self-inflicted mess.""
NDP Leader Marit Stiles asked the province's integrity commissioner to investigate Labour Minister David Piccini for breaching ethics rules in the distribution of Skills Development Fund grants. An auditor general report found Piccini's office selected funding recipients contrary to bureaucrats' advice. Stiles' complaint alleges preferential treatment and breaches of the Member's Integrity Act, including improper use of office to further private interests. One recipient, Keel Digital Solutions, drew scrutiny amid reports that a lobbyist for the company is a close friend of Piccini. The government requested the OPP examine audit findings of irregularities in other Keel funding for student mental health. Keel denies conflation. Piccini's office says he will cooperate.
